Growing up I always hated when my parents would bump into people that they didn't see all that often as I dreaded the "Lauren, I cannot believe how old you have gotten" comment. I would always try to think of an appropriate response, but saying "Thank you" didnt really make sense and if I replied "I know" I would have been lectured for 30 minutes on being a polite young lady yadda yadda, so I always ended up just awkwardly smiling back.

When I saw the C family the first thing out of my mouth was "I cannot believe how much B&R have changed since last fall!" I turned to each of them and told them how much older they looked, and R who doesn't miss a beat reassured me that I looked so much older too. At age 4 she had come up with the perfect response to the comment I always hated. There is never a dull moment with B&R which is why I look forward to seeing them each fall. Without further ado, meet the C Family...

My blog took a summer break. While I am so disappointed that I didn't share photos of the wonderful families I photographed between Memorial Day and Labor Day, I feel so great that I took the time to truly get settled and organized in our new town. I couldn't be happier that I finally have an actual home office that makes editing photos a breeze. After taking an entire summer off, I am so excited to be back in session.

sweet little "d"

I was so excited when "d"'s monogramming mama emailed me about taking his 6 month photos - "d's" dad's family and my family are great friends (gotta love Cathedral High School) so I obviously couldn't wait to meet him, and catch up with his parents. Our shoot was on an awesome spring evening, "d" was a perfect model (are you kidding me with that smile and those dimples?), and it was so great to see his parents!

My niece Kat and nephew Wilkes are Irish Twins. Kat was born on May 15th, 2006 and Wilkes May 9th, 2007, so they are the same age for 6 days each year. Today is Wilkes' 4th birthday; when Eric and I called to wish him happy birthday, Kat was in the background saying that she was turning 5 - it is going to be a long 6 days for Kat. Happy Birthday Bo!

U-turn

While in the past 5 weeks Eric and I have both done more U-turns than we care to admit, with each week that passes we find ourselves relying on the 180 degree maneuver less and less. We definitely miss living on the 40th floor and all the excitement that goes along with it, but we are loving what we have found in Madison. Everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful. (kinda forgot how nice it is to have the cashier at the grocery actually smile and ask how your day has been). Anyway, one of our favorite activities has been taking Jackie to the dog parks around us. Sounds lame I know, but these are not your typical starbucks sipping bark parks (see photos below). Jenn of Jenn Van Wyk Photography was nice enough to show me the ropes and introduced us to Prarie Moraine Dog Park, a beautiful 160 acre off leash trail/hike that makes us question if we really do miss the hustle and bustle of city life.

even though the forecasted beautiful spring day was nowhere to be found "r" didnt bat an eye about going outside and challenging me to a round of hoops - after he schooled me in basketball, he was on to rollerblading (he plays hockey too) and golfing. we took a break to warm up inside (how impressive is his lego ship??) and then headed to the neighborhood park where "r" and i had a swinging competition. once again "r" won which meant i was sent to the baby swing. "r" is one of the most well rounded and pleasant 8 year olds i have ever met and i cant wait to photograph him again this summer!

and are settled for the most part! i wish i had photos of our new town, but honestly my days in madison have so far pretty much consisted of unpacking, organizing, picking out furniture (love that we have more space) yelping and google mapping. that being said, our family and friends have surpassed our expectations (besides a housewarming gift from my mom i really didnt expect anything) with phone calls, cards, flowers all full of well wishes which has made the monotony of breaking down boxes and sweeping up packing peanuts not seem so painful/boring. i am so ready to get back into the swing of things and will be updating regularly from here on out - stay tuned. xoxo

Last month I had a slumber party with my nephew, planned a surprise party/dinner with my family for my mother's 60th birthday, had my first piece of gluten -free cake, saw a javelina, attended my first rodeo, learned how to line dance, laughed till it hurt (ms dewitt, june -tau, cuddleduds), successfully snuck jackie into an un-pet-friendly hotel, visited the old fashioned twice, panicked about the move, found a place for us to live, scheduled our move, hired movers, and completely neglected my blog.

I will get back to posting photos of your little ones once we are settled in next month. Thanks so much for all of your emails and well wishes - xo

america's dairyland

We are moving! My husband Eric recently accepted a position with a great company in Madison, WI...which means we will be relocating there this spring. While, "America's Dairyland" had never been on our radar, we are both excited for the move and all the changes and challenges ahead of us. I am in the process of finalizing my Chicago/Indianapolis calendar for this spring and summer, but will publish it to my website once I have it all squared away. Thanks so much for all of your support and well wishes - let me know if you have any advice on adapting to life in badger-land.
